NORTHFIELD, Minn. – On the road to continue the conference slate, the Macalester women's soccer team faced St. Olaf this afternoon. The Oles may have had more chances, but it was junior midfielder
Mikaely Evans (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard South) who found the back of the net, nabbing the 1-0 victory for the Scots. Macalester is now 6-4 (4-1 MIAC).
In the first half, sophomore defender
Becky Mulcahy (Baltimore, Md./Roland Park Country School) had the best chance for the Scots, but had her attempt saved. First year goalkeeper
Abigail Heuga (San Francisco, Calif./Urban School of San Francisco) faced 12 shots, making three saves. The Scots and Oles were at a stalemate at the end of the first.
Heuga was forced to make multiple saves to begin the second half and keep the game level. Evans, first year forward
Avery Ellis (Chicago, Ill./Lane Tech), and first year defender
Timna Nevo (Portland, Ore./Sunset) created offensive chances to put pressure on the Oles. Then in the 78
th minute first year forward
Julia Hanson (Weston, Mass./Weston) created a dangerous opportunity that was saved by St. Olaf. Evans was then able to put the ball in the back of the net and take the lead. Macalester denied the Oles any other clear chances, and won the game 1-0.
The Scots' next game will be Wednesday Oct 4. Macalester plays its final non-conference game at 4:30 p.m. The Scots travel to Superior, Wis. to play UW-Superior.
