Women’s Soccer: Thomsen & Nhouyvanisvong Combine to Claim Victory Over UW-Superior

SUPERIOR, Wis. – In its final non-conference match of the season, the Macalester women's soccer team traveled to Wisconsin, to take on the Yellowjackets of UW-Superior. After a scoreless first half, the Scots netted two goals and claimed victory, 2-0. Macalester is now 7-4 (4-1 MIAC).

The first half was back-and-forth between the teams. At the midpoint of the half, first year goalkeeper Abigail Heuga (San Francisco, Calif./Urban School of San Francisco) made two saves to deny the Yellowjackets. In response, junior midfielder Mikaely Evans (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard South) took her chance, but it was just cleared away. Fellow junior midfielder Ella Short (Denver, Colo./Denver East) followed up with a shot of her own, which was saved by UW-Superior goalkeeper Quinn Clark, to keep the game goalless at the break.

From the second half whistle, the game remained close for another thirty minutes, beforel the Scots were able to capitalize on two chances. In the 76th minute, first year forward Adi Nhouyvanisvong (Wayzata, Minn./Minnetonka) put one into the top left of the net, assisted by senior midfield/forward Ella Thomsen (Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto). After the kickoff, the Yellowjackets had a chance that was saved by Heuga, resulting in nice play up the field for the Scots and Thomsen netting her own goal and doubling the lead. Nhouyvanisvong returned the favor and assisted Thomsen on her goal in the 79th minute.

The Scots' next game will be Saturday Oct 7. Macalester hosts St. Scholastica at Macalester Stadium at 12:00 p.m.
