PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The Macalester College volleyball team split a pair of matches at UW-Platteville, defeating Carroll University before losing to the host Pioneers Saturday afternoon at Williams Fieldhouse. The results give the Scots a 7-9 record on the season.
In the first match of the day, Macalester eked out a 25-23 win in the first set against Carroll (8-9) before closing out the win, 25-18, 25-14. Junior outside hitter

Sydney Stratton (North Liberty, Iowa/Liberty) each had three kills in the first set. The Scots trailed early in the second set but came back to win on the strength of four kills by sophomore right side
Avery Rahe (Olathe, Kan./Olathe West). The third set saw Macalester break open a close score with a 9-1 run en route to a 25-14 victory and the sweep. Preston had five kills in the final set to finish with a team-best 10 kills, while Rahe tallied four of her nine kills in the third set. Rahe also hit .353 to lead the offense. First year setter
Hannah Morrow (Raleigh, N.C./Millbrook) notched 26 assists, while junior libero
Torrance Williams (Houston, Texas/Yes Prep Northbrook) registered 20 of Macalester's 50 digs.
Against UW-Platteville (14-3), which received votes in the most recent Division III national rankings, the Scots competed well but ultimately fell, 25-11, 25-13, 23-25, 25-20. Over the first two sets Macalester struggled on offense with a combined 11 kills. The third set brought out the best in the Scots, who racked up 13 kills and hit .257 in a 25-23 win. Preston had four kills and Stratton put away three kills in five attempts without an error (.600) in the set. Macalester grabbed a late lead in the fourth set following kills by Preston and junior middle blocker
Stephanie Geber (Oviedo, Fla./Oviedo) that made the score 18-17. But the Pioneers tallied eight of the final 10 points to take the fourth set, 25-20 and win the match. Preston closed with six kills in the fourth set to finish with a team-high 11 kills and nine digs. Rahe registered eight kills, while sophomore outside hitter
Grace Watkins (San Angelo, Texas/Georgetown) added seven kills. Morrow delivered 25 assists and eight digs, and Stratton recorded three blocks and six kills.
Macalester returns to MIAC action on Saturday, Oct. 7 with a match at St. Catherine University at 7:00 p.m.
