ST. PETER, Minn. – The Macalester women's soccer team competed in its second MIAC game of the season, taking on Gustavus this afternoon. The Scots made their chances count, and took the victory, 1-0. Macalester is now 4-1 (2-0 MIAC).
 
Macalester was put on the defensive quickly, as first year goalkeeper Abigail Heuga (San Francisco, Calif./Urban School of San Francisco) made five of 10 first half saves within the first 16 minutes of the game. Despite the Gusties' attempts, Heuga kept the Scots level. In the 42^nd minute, first year Julia Hanson (Weston, Mass./Weston) took Macalester's first shot of the game and put it past Gustavus' goalkeeper. Assisted by senior Mia Brisbin (Los Angeles, Calif./Crossroads School), the Scots took a 1-0 lead.
 
In the second half, the Scots defended their lead, while offensively, Brisbin and first year Adi Nhouyvanisvong (Wayzata, Minn./Minnetonka) forced saves from the Gusties' goalkeeper. Heuga made two more saves, including one in the 88^th minute, to preserve the 1-0 victory.
 
The Scots' next game will be Thursday Sept 21 at 7:30 p.m. Macalester will play UW-Eau Claire in a non-conference matchup.
