Men’s Tennis: Macalester Finishes Third In The MIAC Standings, Defeats St. Olaf 6-3

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The Macalester College men's tennis team closed out the regular season today, competing against St. Olaf. The Scots won the match 6-3, to finish third in the conference standings. Macalester finished the regular season with a record of 11-6 (7-2 MIAC).
 
Slated at No. 1 doubles, senior Matthew Sullivan (Tacoma, Wash./Weil) and sophomore Alec Sargent (Rochester, Minn./Rochester Century) defeated their opponents 8-4. Also winning their match 8-4 at No. 3 doubles was senior Josh Marine (Honolulu, Hawaii/Summit) and sophomore Liam Lynch (St. Paul, Minn./St. Paul Academy). The Oles took the point at No. 2 doubles.
 
Both sophomore Jordan Doi (Mililani, Hawaii/Mililani) and senior Anton Korolev (Moscow, Russia/Weil) defeated their opponents 6-4, 6-2, at second and third singles respectively. Sophomore Lucas Wood (Urbana, Ill./University Lab School) eased to a first set victory of 6-2 and then battled hard to win the second set 7-6 (7-3) at No. 4 singles. Junior Lewis Jolly (Grinnell, Iowa/Grinnell) fought hard to take sixth singles in three sets (4-6, 6-4, 10-5). The Oles took the points at first and fifth singles.
 
Macalester receives a first-round bye for the MIAC Playoffs. The Scots will begin the postseason on Thursday April 27. Macalester will play No. 2 Carleton at 4:30 p.m. in Northfield.

Before the match, the Scots honored its seniors Sullivan, Marine, Korolev, and Sawyer Michaelson (Minneapolis, Minn./Southwest). The Scots return eight to the court next season.
