NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The Macalester College men's tennis team rounded out the 2023 campaign, falling 5-0 to the Carleton Knights in the semifinals of the MIAC Playoffs. The Scots finish the season with a record of 11-7 (7-2 MIAC).
The Scots battled hard and came close to defeating the Knights at No. 3 doubles. Senior
Josh Marine (Honolulu, Hawaii/Summit) and sophomore
Liam Lynch (St. Paul, Minn./St. Paul Academy) fell in the tiebreaker, 7-3, dropping the match 8-7. Slated at No. 2 doubles, sophomore
Jordan Doi (Mililani, Hawaii/Mililani) and senior
Anton Korolev (Moscow, Russia/Weil) narrowly fell 8-6. At No. 1 doubles, senior
Matthew Sullivan (Tacoma, Wash./Weil) and sophomore
Alec Sargent (Rochester, Minn./Rochester Century) fell 8-4 in a hard-fought match. The Knights were able to win at fourth and sixth singles to take five points and win by decision, 5-0.
Doi led the Scots in singles play, going 12-4 (7-2 MIAC). He won one match at first singles, three at second singles, and went 8-4 at third singles this season. Partners Sargent and Sullivan went 9-8 (6-3 MIAC) at No. 1 doubles this season, while Doi and Korolev went 9-5 (5-3 MIAC) at No. 2 doubles this year.
This marks the last match as a Scots for seniors Sullivan, Marine, Korolev, and
Sawyer Michaelson (Minneapolis, Minn./Southwest).
