SARTELL, Minn. – The Macalester College men's tennis team took on Saint John's this afternoon in an important MIAC matchup. The Scots defeated the Johnnies, 8-1, and clinched a top-three finish in the MIAC this season. Macalester will have a first-round bye in the playoffs on April 25-29. The Scots are now 10-5 (6-1 MIAC).
Slated at No. 3 doubles, senior
Josh Marine (Honolulu, Hawaii/Summit) and sophomore
Liam Lynch (St. Paul, Minn./St. Paul Academy) won 8-5. Sophomore
Jordan Doi (Mililani, Hawaii/Mililani) and senior
Anton Korolev (Moscow, Russia/Weil) also won 8-5 at No. 2 doubles. The Johnnies took the point at No. 1 doubles.
Senior
Matthew Sullivan (Tacoma, Wash./Weil) won at No. 2 singles in two 6-2 sets. Korolev won in two 6-4 sets at No. 4 singles. Slated at first singles, sophomore
Alec Sargent (Rochester, Minn./Rochester Century) won 6-3, 6-4, while
Jordan Doi earned the point at third singles (7-5, 6-3). Marine won at sixth singles (7-5, 7-6 (7-3)). Sophomore
Lucas Wood (Urbana, Ill./University Lab School) forced his match at No. 5 singles to three sets and was victorious (1-6, 7-5, 11-9).
Macalester's next match is slated for Wednesday April 19 at 4:30 p.m. The Scots head to Northfield, Minn. to take on Carleton.
