MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The Macalester College men's tennis team played its first match back in Minnesota today, against Gustavus. The Scots fought hard, but fell 8-1 to the Gusties. Macalester is now 6-5 (2-1 MIAC).
Senior
Matthew Sullivan (Tacoma, Wash./Weil) and sophomore
Alec Sargent (Rochester, Minn./Rochester Century) earned the Scots' only point today. The pair defeated their opponents 8-5 at No. 1 doubles. The Gusties took the points at second and third doubles.
Slated at third singles, sophomore
Jordan Doi (Mililani, Hawaii/Mililani) forced his match into three sets, winning the second set 6-3, but fell 10-5 in the third. Senior
Anton Korolev (Moscow, Russia/Weil) also played a three-set match at No. 4 singles (2-6, 7-5, 4-10). Gustavus took the points at first, second, fifth, and sixth singles as well.
Macalester's next dual will be Saturday April 1 at 1:30 p.m. The Scots will travel to Winona, Minn. to play MIAC opponent Saint Mary's.
