ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – The Macalester College water polo team began CWPA play on Saturday with a pair of one-goal losses to Austin College and host Augustana College at Anne Greve Lund Natatorium. The Scots are now 2-8 overall and 0-2 in the CWPA.
Against Austin, Macalester trailed 4-2 after one quarter despite goals from first year

Sydney Hollingsworth (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township) tallied the Scots' lone goal of the second quarter, as Austin led 6-3 at the half. Michaud answered am Austin goal with one of her own in the third quarter, then Hollingsworth and sophomore
Sian Lewandowski (North Haven, Conn./Williston Northampton) scored in the fourth quarter to cut the deficit to one, 7-6 with 4:05 remaining. But Macalester was unable to score the equalizer, as Austin closed out the win. Junior goalkeeper
Laurel O'Hare (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township) made 14 saves in goal for the Scots.
In the match with Augustana, the Vikings led 3-0 into the second quarter before first year
Jess Palmer-Sammons (Half Moon Bay, Calif./Half Moon Bay) found the net for Macalester with 3:01 on the clock. After Augustana scored its fourth goal, Michaud notched a goal before the end of the quarter to make the halftime score 4-3. Elizabeth Matlin (Buffalo Grove, Ill./Adlai E. Stevenson) and Michaud sparked a comeback attempt with goals near the end of the quarter. Augustana tallied a goal with 1:15 left to make the score 8-6 before Palmer-Sammons netted her second goal of the game with 1:07 remaining.
