TUCSON, Ariz. – The Scots put on a show this afternoon, as the Macalester baseball team dominated against Carthage. Macalester won 7-1, and are now 3-3 on the season.
Macalester went ahead early in the first. Junior
Matt Odom (Glendale, Calif./St. Francis) drove a single into center field and brought home senior
Joe Margolis (Chicago, Ill./Jones College Prep). Then, first year
Niko Alexander (Bethesda, Md./Walt Whitman) then hit an RBI single, plating junior
Matt Mukai (Foster City, Calif./Aragon) and lead 2-0. The Scots increased their lead to five in the fifth. Margolis tripled, bringing home first year
Stephen Paulsen (Middleton, Wis./Middleton). Then, Odom hit a two RBI double, sending Margolis and Mukai home.
The Scots capped off their scoring in the sixth. Junior
Charlie Burton (Round Lake, Ill./Round Lake) came into the lineup as a pinch hitter and smashed a two-run home run. Burton along with first year
Josh Planko (Northville, Mich./Northville) came home, and Macalester went up 7-0. The firebirds put up one run in the ninth, but Macalester's strong all-around performance sealed the victory.
Sophomore
Ben Levinson (Piedmont, Calif./Piedmont) pitched seven innings, only allowing three hits. Odom went 2-for-3 with three RBI's.
Macalester's next game will be Wednesday March 15. The Scots will play Concordia Wisconsin at the Kino Sports Complex in Tucson, Ariz. First pitch is set for 9:00 a.m. MST/11:00 a.m. CDT.
