ST. PAUL, Minn. – Sophomore guards/forwards
Peyton Starks (St. Louis, Mo./John Burroughs School) and
Katherine Norquist (Chicago, Ill./Walter Payton College Prep) of Macalester women's basketball were recognized today, as the MIAC announced its end-of-season awards today. Starks earned All-MIAC honors while Norquist was recognized as All-MIAC honorable mention.
Starks was an important factor in Macalester's offense this season, leading the team with 471 points (avg. 18.8 ppg), to rank first in the MIAC. Starks was the leading scorer for Macalester in 23 out of 25 games. She scored a career high 34 points in the 83-81 OT victory against St. Olaf on Feb. 8. Starks registered five double-doubles on the season, failing to score in double digits only twice this season. She also led the team in rebounds this season, totaling 184. Defensively, Starks led the team with 50 steals and 17 blocks.
Also an intricate part of Macalester's team, Norquist scored 225 points this season, averaging 9.8 per game, to rank second on the team. Missing a few games due to injury, Norquist started in 22 of 23 games. She scored a career high 22 points against St. Olaf on Feb. 8, including scoring the buzzer beating winner in 83-81 OT victory. Norquist also ranked second on the team with 52 assists on the season.
St. Olaf's Rachel Kelly was named Offensive Player of the Year, while Chan'el Anderson-Manning of Hamline was named Defensive Player of the Year. Coach Kim Wagers of Concordia was named Coach of the Year and Lexi Imdieke of St. Scholastica was named Rookie of the Year.
