MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The Macalester College men's tennis team played its second game of the weekend tonight, hosting the Eagles of Northwestern (MN) The Scots won in strong fashion, 8-1. Macalester is now 3-1 (1-0 MIAC).
Senior
Matthew Sullivan (Tacoma, Wash./Weil) and sophomore
Alec Sargent (Rochester, Minn./Rochester Century) combined at No. 1 doubles to win 8-4. At No. 2 doubles, senior
Anton Korolev (Moscow, Russia/Weil) and sophomore
Jordan Doi (Mililani, Hawaii/Mililani) also won 8-4. With a score of 8-3, sophomores
Liam Lynch (St. Paul, Minn./St. Paul Academy) and
Martin Stoner (South Bend, Ind./Adams) took the point at third doubles.
Sullivan won No. 1 singles in two sets, 6-3, 6-4. Doi had a tough first set, winning 7-5 and then breezed to a 6-0 victory to take second singles. Slated at third singles, Korolev won 6-1, 6-3. Senior
Josh Marine (Honolulu, Hawaii/Summit) won the point at No. 4 singles (6-3, 6-2). Stoner won 6-2, 6-4 at No. 5 singles. The Eagles won the point at No. 6 singles.
The Scots' next match will on Saturday Feb 25 at 4:00 p.m. in Rochester, Minn. at Rochester Tennis Connection. Macalester will compete against Luther.
