MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The Macalester College women's tennis team opened up conference play this evening, taking on St. Scholastica at the Baseline Tennis Center in Minneapolis. The Scots came out on top, 6-3. The Scots are now 2-0 (1-0 MIAC).
Slated at No. 2 doubles, junior
Amanye Reynolds (St. Paul, Minn./Harding) and senior
Avery Munster (San Luis Obispo, Calif./Mission) edged their opponents for the win, 8-7. First years
Savannah Haugen (Bemidji, Minn./Bemidji) and
Elizabeth Trevathan (St. Paul, Minn./St. Paul Academy) took the victory at No. 3 doubles, by a commanding 8-1 margin. Juniors
Sydney Ellison (Birmingham, Ala./Spain Park) and
Meg Ulrich (Carlisle, PA./Carlisle) came close at No. 1 doubles, but fell 8-7.
Trevathan and Haugen each won their singles matches as well. Trevathan won 6-1, 6-2 at No. 5 singles and Haugen won 6-0, 7-5 at No. 6 singles. Senior
Amalin Sorajja (Rochester, Minn./Mayo) was victorious at fourth singles (6-2, 7-5). Ulrich claimed victory (6-0, 6-3) at No. 3 singles. Reynolds forced her match at No. 2 singles to three sets, but fell 4-6, 7-5, 6-10. The Saints also won at No. 1 singles.
Macalester's next match will be Saturday Feb 11. The Scots play non-conference opponent Northwestern (MN) at 6:30 p.m. at Baseline Tennis Center.
