Men’s Soccer: Scots Draw Auggies in Regular Season Finale

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn.  –  The Macalester men's soccer team competed in its last regular season game this evening, taking on Augsburg in a road matchup. Both teams battled to the end, creating multiple chances, but the game ended in a 2-2 tie. The Scots end the regular season 10-2-5 (5-2-3 MIAC). Augsburg ends the regular season 8-3-6 (4-1-5 MIAC).

The Auggies struck early, getting a goal in the 12th minute to take a 1-0 lead. The Scots responded with harder offensive pressure. First year midfielders Kasdan Blattman (San Jose, Calif./Bellarmine) and Elijah Edelman (Portland, Ore./Cleveland), along with junior forward Hans Haenicke (Lisle, Ill./Benet Academy), immediately created opportunities for the Scots. In the 38th minute, Edelman scored, assisted by Haenicke, to tie the game at one all. Price made a nice save in the 40th minute to keep the game level heading into halftime.

Just thirty seconds into the second half, first year forward Chris Frantz (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove), took a chance, but was blocked by the Auggies. Edelman also created multiple chances. Yet it was Frantz who put Macalester ahead in the 57th minute, with a shot to the lower right side of the net. Augsburg answered back however in the 65th minute, to tie the game back up. Edelman had the Scots' best chance to go up again near the end of the game, but was denied by Augsburg's goalkeeper. Both teams battled hard, but the Scots and Auggies ended the game in a 2-2 draw.

The Scots have clinched a spot in the MIAC Playoffs and will play on Monday Oct 30. Macalester awaits to find out their opponent after the remaining MIAC games conclude tomorrow.
