ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester women's soccer team hosted Hamline at home this afternoon. The Scots pulled out the victory late, defeating the Pipers 1-0. Macalester improves to 9-6-1 (6-3-1 MIAC).
In the first half, first year goalkeeper
Abigail Heuga (San Francisco, Calif./Urban School of San Francisco) made an early save in the fifth minute to keep the game level. Then the Scots turned up the pressure, with junior midfielder
Ella Short (Dever, Colo./Denver East), first year forward
Adi Nhouyvanisvong (Wayzata, Minn./Minnetonka), and senior midfield/forward
Ella Thomsen (Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto) each forcing saves from the Pipers' goalkeeper Isabella Jensen. Senior forward
Mia Brisbin (Los Angeles, Calif./Crossroads School) created multiple chances for herself throughout the half, but the game remained scoreless after 45 minutes.
In the second, the two teams battled back and forth. It came late, but the Scots broke through in the 86
th minute. A cross from Brisbin went into the path of Thomsen who buried the ball to take the lead. Nhouyvanisvong then had a shot go just over the bar. The Scots' patience and pressure prevailed, and Macalester took the game 1-0.
Before the game, the Scots honored its seniors Brisbin, Thomsen, and
Livi Novello (East Lansing, Mich./East Lansing). Macalester returns 24 next fall.
The Scots play their final regular season game against Augsburg on Oct 28. Macalester heads to Minneapolis, with kickoff at 5:30 p.m.
