ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College volleyball team lost a MIAC match to St. Olaf, 25-16, 25-11, 25-21 Saturday night in the Leonard Center. The result leaves the Scots with an 8-14 overall record, including a 2-6 mark in the conference. The Oles improve to 15-8, 4-4 MIAC.
In the first set, St. Olaf turned a narrow 10-9 edge into a 25-16 win with nine kills in a 15-7 run. Sophomore right side
Avery Rahe (Olathe, Kan./Olathe West) tallied four kills for Macalester in the set. The second set was all St. Olaf, with the Oles hitting .500 on 18 kills and one error in 34 attempts in a 25-11 victory. The Scots managed just seven kills, including three by Rahe.
In the third set, Macalester came alive late after trailing 20-12. Three kills by first year outside hitter
MiLani Terrell (Cypress, Texas/Tomball Memorial) and two kills from junior middle blocker
Stephanie Geber (Oviedo, Fla./Oviedo) sparked a 7-3 run that made the score 23-19. Terrell staved off one match point with a kill, then junior outside hitter
Adisa Preston (Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie) put away another kill to keep the Scots alive, 24-21. But Anysia Caille's fifth kill of the set gave the Oles a 25-21 win in the third set to take the match.
Rahe, Terrell and Preston each had seven kills in the match to lead the Scots. Preston also had a team best 11 digs to go with three blocks defensively. First year setter
Hannah Morrow (Raleigh, N.C./Millbrook) notched 22 assists. Defensively, first year middle blocker
Sydney Stratton (North Liberty, Iowa/Liberty) tallied five blocks, and sophomore defensive specialist
Sarah Bohrer (Minneapolis, Minn./Edina) added 10 digs. Caille and Catherine Moore paced the Oles with 13 kills apiece.
Macalester takes on Hamline University in a MIAC match on Friday, Oct. 27 on the road. The match is set for 7:00 p.m. in St. Paul, Minn.
