Women’s Soccer: Scots Draw Against Cardinals

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester women's soccer team hosted Saint Mary's this evening at Macalester Stadium. Both teams created multiple chances, but neither side found the goal, and the game ended in a 0-0 tie. The Scots are now 8-6-1 (5-3-1 MIAC).

The two teams went back and forth in the first half, knocking the ball around the field to create penetrating chances. Senior midfield/forward Ella Thomsen (Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto) had her shot saved by the Cardinals' goalkeeper Anna Peckosh in the 17th minute. Eleven minutes later, sophomore defender Becky Mulcahy (Baltimore, Md./Roland Park Country School) put one on frame in the 28th minute, but was also denied by Peckosh. First year goalkeeper Abigail Heuga (San Francisco, Calif./Urban School of San Francisco) also made two saves in the first half to deny the Cardinals and keep the game level.

The Scots immediately created a strong opportunity in the second half. Sophomore midfield/forward Maia Lemov (Delmar, N.Y./Bethlehem Central) had her shot blocked, resulting in a corner for Macalester. First year forward Adi Nhouyvanisvong (Wayzata, Minn./Minnetonka) got on the end of it, hitting the post. Nhouyvanisvong's shot ricocheted back to first year forward Julia Hanson (Weston, Mass./Weston), but her shot went just over the goal. Heuga made four more saves in the half, including a diving save in the 69th minute, to keep the Cardinals scoreless and walk away with the 0-0 draw.

The Scots will play at Macalester Stadium on Saturday Oct 21. Macalester hosts Hamline at 3:30 p.m.
