SUPERIOR, Wis. – The Macalester men's soccer team took a break in conference play, and traveled to Wisconsin, for a game under the lights against UW-Superior. The Scots threatened early, and their precision paid off, defeating the Yellowjackets 3-1. Macalester improves to 8-2-4 (3-2-2 MIAC).
First year forward
Chris Frantz (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove) set the tempo early, knocking one off the crossbar in the fifth minute. The Scots continued to press, and went ahead in the 24
th minute, with a goal by first year midfielder
Elijah Edelman (Portland, Ore./Cleveland). Macalester doubled its lead just before halftime with a goal by junior forward
Nathan Corbett (Mequon, Wis./Homestead).
In the second half, Macalester subdued the Yellowjackets' offensive attacks. The Scots held UW-Superior until the 87
th minute, when the Yellowjackets cut the lead to 2-1. However, Frantz answered back immediately, less than a minute later, assisted by sophomore midfielder
Ondieki Maina (El Cerrito, Calif./El Cerrito), and secured the 3-1 victory.
Macalester returns to conference play on Saturday Oct 21 against Hamline. The Scots will host the Pipers at Macalester Stadium. Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m.
