NORTHFIELD, Minn. – It was a beautiful day out in Northfield, as the Macalester women's soccer team took on the Knights of Carleton. Despite their best efforts, the Scots fell 1-0, in a tightly fought battle. The Scots are now 8-5 (5-2 MIAC) while the Knights move to 11-1-1 (7-0-1 MIAC).
First year goalkeeper
Abigail Heuga (San Francisco, Calif./Urban School of San Francisco) got in on the action early, making a save in the seventh minute. Heuga then made another huge save in the 16
th minute, making a quick dive to her right to deny the Knights. However, in the 26
th minute, Carleton were able to slip one past Heuga and go up 1-0. Heuga made three more saves in the half to keep the game close heading into halftime.
The Scots were able to create more offensive chances in the second half. Junior midfielder
Ella Short (Denver, Colo./Denver East) made a quick shot in the 46
th minute, but it was kept out by the Knights' goalie Avery Trapp. First year forwards
Julia Hanson (Weston, Mass./Weston) and
Adi Nhouyvanisvong (Wayzata, Minn./Minnetonka), senior forward
Mia Brisbin (Los Angeles, Calif./Crossroads School), and senior midfield/forward
Ella Thomsen (Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto) worked hard to provide chances for the Scots, but Macalester didn't find the back of the net and fell 1-0. Heuga made 15 saves throughout the game.
Macalester's next game will be Saturday Oct 14. The Scots will play St. Catherine at 1:00 p.m. on the road.
