ST. PAUL, Minn. – Macalester College junior receiver
Michael Poker (Brookfield, Wis./Brookfield East) was chosen the MIAC Offensive Player of the Week for football for the week ending Sept. 4, the league announced today. Poker helped the Scots defeat Minnesota Morris, 45-24 in the season opener on Saturday in Morris, Minn.
Poker caught eight passes for 158 yards and two touchdowns. Six of his receptions were for 15 yards or more, including completions of 40, 37, and a 27-yard touchdown. He also threw a 19-yard touchdown pass to junior receiver
Nick Bice (Fort Dodge, Iowa/Fort Dodge) in the fourth quarter that made it a two-possession game, 30-17.
The performance came in Poker's first game since the fourth game of the 2021 season, as an injury forced him to miss the last six games. He made four catches for 39 yards in 2021.
Macalester plays its first home game of the season on Saturday, Sept. 10 against Martin Luther. Game time is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. at Macalester Stadium.
