Decorah, Iowa – The Macalester College men's soccer team had a road contest this afternoon against the Norse of Luther College. The Scots fought the whole game, but ended falling 1-0. Macalester's record is now 1-2-2.
The Scots were put on the defensive quickly with two offensive attacks by the Norse. Then the Scots found their footing and were able to take their own chances towards goal. Sophomore
Julian Evans (Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte Latin School) and senior
Milosz Fernandez-Kepka (Las Vegas, Nev./Indiana University HS) led the offensive attack. However, Luther was able to capitalize on a penalty kick in the 29
th minute to take the lead into the break.
Macalester came out strong in the second half, and got the first shot of the half. Junior
Branko Sciortino (Los Altos, Calif./Bellermine College Prep) forced a save by the Norse's goalkeeper in the 50
th minute. Sophomore goalkeeper
Sam Price (Chicago, Ill./Lane Tech) made four saves in the half, six total, to keep the Scots within one. Sciortino made Macalester's final effort in the 85
th minute but was denied by the Norse goalkeeper. The Scots fell 1-0.
The Scots' next game will be Tuesday, Sept. 13. Macalester heads to Moorhead for its first MIAC game of the season against Concordia at 4:00 p.m.
