Men’s Soccer: Macalester Registers Highest Team GPA in Men’s College Soccer

| By:
ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College men's soccer team received the Team Academic Award from the United Soccer Coaches today after posting the highest team grade point average among all men's college soccer teams during the 2021-22 academic year, the organization announced today. The Scots' GPA of 3.75 is tied with Stevens Institute of Technology for the highest GPA across all three NCAA Divisions.

Macalester, coached by Gregg Olson, also recorded the highest team GPA among Division III programs during the 2019-20 season. This is the 10th consecutive year the Scots have earned the Team Academic Award, which requires a team GPA of at least 3.0.

"Obviously a team GPA of 3.75 is jaw dropping," Olson said. "Clearly the individuals on the team are committed to success and this manifests in all sorts of ways both in the classroom and on the field. The coaching staff is very proud of the consistently excellent collective GPA and we feel fortunate to work with student-athletes of this caliber."

Last fall, recent graduate Will Orser (Eau Claire, Wis./Eau Claire Memorial) was named an Academic All-American by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Orser was one of 21 members of the men's soccer team to earn Academic All-MIAC accolades for achieving at least a 3.50 cumulative GPA.
