Declan Elias (San Francisco, Calif./St. Ignatius) was named to the D3baseball.com All-Region 9 first team, the website announced today. He was also named to the ABCA/Rawlings Region 9 second team. Earlier this month, Elias was named to the All-MIAC team.
Making his first appearance on the D3baseball All-Region team, Elias finished the season with a 1.69 ERA, leading the Scots. He also led the team in strikeouts (49) with a batting average against of .160. Ten of his strikeouts came against Wesleyan (Conn.) on March 18. Elias was a critical component of Macalester's pitching rotation this season, coming in to pitch during pivotal moments for the Scots. Elias had two saves on the season, including one against Concordia on May 2. Elias came into the game with a one run lead in the fifth inning. In the 2.2 innings he pitched, Elias struck out six batters and maintained the 5-4 lead for the victory. In the nine games Elias pitched this season, he only allowed one hit in seven of them.
Elias was one of three MIAC players to make the first team, joining MIAC Player of the year and D3baseball.com Region 9 Player of the year Jack Hanson of Gustavus and MIAC Pitcher of the year and D3baseball.com Pitcher of the year Kiefer Lord of Carleton. Seven other MIAC players made All-Region teams.
