St. Peter, Minn. – The Macalester College men's tennis team took to the road to face #17 Gustavus in a MIAC matchup. The Scots fell, 9-0, suffering its first conference loss of the season. Macalester is now 7-5 (3-1 MIAC).
Senior
Alexander Poland (Madison, Wis./Madison West) and first year
Liam Lynch (St. Paul, Minn./St. Paul Academy) put up a fight at No. 3 doubles, but ultimately fell 8-4 to the Gusties. Gustavus also won at first and second doubles.
At No. 4 singles, junior
Matthew Sullivan (Tacoma, Wash./Weil) fell 6-2 in the first set, and forced the second set to 7-5. However, the Gusties would take the victory. Senior
Karsten Knutsen (Minneapolis, Minn./Riverfield Country Day (Okla.) fell in a close first set 7-6 and then 6-2 at No. 2 singles. First year
Jordan Doi (Mililani, Hawaii/Mililani) battled to two 6-3 sets at No. 3 singles, while junior
Anton Korolev (Moscow, Russia/Weil) fought to sets of 6-4 and 6-3. Despite the Scots strong performance, the Gusties came out on top, 9-0, taking first and sixth singles as well.
The Scots' next match is scheduled for Tuesday, April 12, at 5:00 p.m. Macalester will host Bethel.
