Rogers, Minn. – The Macalester College men's tennis team played at the Rogers Tennis Center this evening for a MIAC dual against the Bethel Royals. The Scots eased to an 8-1 victory over the Royals. Macalester improves to 8-5 (4-1 MIAC).
At No. 1 doubles, junior
Matthew Sullivan (Tacoma, Wash./Weil) and partner first year
Alec Sargent (Rochester, Minn./Rochester Century) edged out Bethel in an 8-7 victory. Senior
Alexander Poland (Madison, Wis./Madison West) and first year
Liam Lynch (St. Paul, Minn./St. Paul Academy) had a close battle as well at No.3 doubles, but pulled out the win, 8-6. The Royals won at No. 2 doubles.
After winning the first set 6-3 at No. 1 singles, Sargent was forced into a third set where he won 1-0. At No. 2 singles, it was senior
Karsten Knutsen (Minneapolis, Minn./Riverfield Country Day (Okla.) who came back from a set down to win set two 6-3, and set three 1-0. First year
Jordan Doi (Mililani, Hawaii/Mililani) also had a three-set match at No. 3 singles, winning 6-4, 1-6, 1-0. Sullivan had a close battle in the first set, but won 7-5 and then breezed to a 6-2 set two win to take No. 4 singles. Junior
Anton Korolev (Moscow, Russia/Weil) battled to a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 5 singles, while Poland won two 6-1 sets to claim victory at No. 6 singles.
The Scots' next match is scheduled for Thursday, April 21, at 5:00 p.m. Macalester will host Hamline.
