St. Paul, Minn. – The Macalester College men's tennis team hosted Hamline for its sixth MIAC dual of the season. The Scots took the match 8-1. Macalester improves to 9-5 (5-1 MIAC).
At No. 4 singles, junior
Matthew Sullivan (Tacoma, Wash./Weil) blanked his opponent 6-0, 6-0. Both junior
Anton Korolev (Moscow, Russia/Weil) and senior
Alexander Poland (Madison, Wis./Madison West) won 6-0 in one set and 6-1 in the other, giving Macalester victories at No. 5 and No. 6 singles respectively. Senior
Karsten Knutsen (Minneapolis, Minn./Riverfield Country Day (Okla.) took the point at No. 2 singles, winning 7-6 and 6-2. First year
Alec Sargent (Rochester, Minn./Rochester Century) won the first set at No. 1 singles 6-1. After dropping the second set 6-2, Sargent came back to win set three 10-7. The Pipers won in three sets at No. 3 singles.
At No. 1 doubles, Sullivan and Sargent cruised to an 8-3 victory. At No. 3 singles, Poland and first year
Liam Lynch (St. Paul, Minn./St. Paul Academy) blanked their opponents 8-0. Doi and junior
Josh Marine (Honolulu, Hawaii/Summit) had the toughest battle of the day at No. 2 doubles, but came out on top 8-7.
The Scots' next match is scheduled for Saturday, April 23, at 12:00 p.m. Macalester will head to Minneapolis to play Saint John's.
