Minneapolis, Minn. – The Macalester College men's tennis team played Carleton in its last regular season match. The Scots fell to the Knights 9-0. Carleton ended its regular season 14-5 (8-1 MIAC) and took the No. 2 seed in the playoffs, while Macalester earned the No. 3 playoff seed. Macalester ended the regular season with a record of 11-6 (7-2 MIAC).
First year
Alec Sargent (Rochester, Minn./Rochester Century) and junior
Matthew Sullivan (Tacoma, Wash./Weil) battled hard at No. 1 doubles, but fell 8-6. Senior
Karsten Knutsen (Minneapolis, Minn./Riverfield Country Day (Okla.) and junior
Anton Korolev (Moscow, Russia/Weil) paired for the first time this year at No. 3 doubles. Despite Korolev and Knutsen fighting to the end, they fell 8-5. The Knights also won at No. 2 doubles.
After losing the first set 6-2 at third singles, first year
Jordan Doi (Mililani, Hawaii/Mililani) came back to win the second set 6-2. However, Doi's opponent won 1-0 in the third to take the match. Korolev also forced his match at No. 5 into three sets but fell 4-6, 6-3, 0-1. Sullivan came close in his match at No. 4 singles, losing 6-4, 7-5. Carleton also took first, second, and sixth singles.
The Scots will get a rematch against Carleton on Friday May 6. The two teams will face off at Carleton in the semifinals of the MIAC Playoffs. The match begins at 3:30 p.m.
