ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College water polo team placed three student-athletes on the CWPA Division III-West All-Conference Teams, as the league announced its year-end awards. Junior
Eleanor Michaud (Long Grove, Ill./Adlai E. Stevenson) was named to the first team, while senior
Riley Waters (Portland, Ore./St. Mary's Academy) and sophomore
Laurel O'Hare (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township) made the second team.
Michaud had a major impact for the Scots at both ends of the pool, ranking second on the team with 30 goals and 17 assists for 47 points while registering a team-best 73 steals. In a 19-4 victory against Carthage on April 16, she tallied five goals, four assists and five steals to earn CWPA Division III Player and Defensive Player of the Week accolades. This past weekend, Michaud was named to the CWPA All-Tournament team after compiling four goals, three assists and eight steals over three games. The program's first All-America first team honoree in 2021, Michaud has 47 goals, 43 assists and 113 steals in three years at Macalester.
Waters was unstoppable at times this season while leading the Scots in scoring with 38 goals and 49 points. In an important match against Wittenberg on April 10 that determined third place in the regular-season standings, Waters single-handedly broke a 7-7 tie with three straight goals in the fourth quarter to lead Macalester to a 10-9 victory. In 48 career games, Waters totaled 80 goals and 23 assists for 103 points.
O'Hare earns her first All-CWPA award after receiving All-American honorable mention a year ago. The Scots' goalkeeper played in all 19 games this season and recorded 144 saves and a 45 percent save percentage. She also had three assists and 17 steals while making two penalty saves. At last weekend's CWPA Tournament, O'Hare made 26 saves, including 10 in the quarterfinal victory over Grove City, to earn a spot on the All-Tournament Team.
Macalester, coached by
Scott Reed, finished the season 6-13 overall and 4-4 in the CWPA to place third in the conference standings.
