Winona, Minn. – The Macalester College baseball team traveled down to Winona, Minn. this afternoon for a MIAC double header against Saint Mary's. The Scots won both games this afternoon for their first MIAC wins of the season. Macalester improves to 6-13 (2-4 MIAC), while Saint Mary's moves to 12-13 (4-4 MIAC).

Lian Lincoln (Anchorage, Alaska/South Anchorage) got the scoring started in the first game, after being batted in on a double by first year
Hayes Waddell (North Hampton, N.H./Winnacunnet) in the top of the second inning. Junior
Thomas Windels (New York, N.Y./Epsicopal) pitched the first 4.2 innings, allowing zero runs and only five hits. Fellow junior
Declan Elias (San Francisco, Calif./St. Ignatius) came in to pitch in the fifth inning, with the second batter he faced, grounding out to keep the Scots up 1-0. The Cardinals tied the game in the sixth and forced the game to extra innings. In the eighth, senior
Michael Moreno (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) doubled to left center to drive home junior
Joe Margolis (Chicago, Ill./Jones College Prep) for a 2-1 lead. Elias struck out the first two batters at the bottom of the inning, and the last Cardinal at bat grounded out to Elias for a 1-2-3 inning and a 2-1 Scots victory.
The Scots continued to work, scoring the first run of game two in the first. Sophomore
Matt Odom (Glendale, Calif./St. Francis) hit a sacrifice fly to bring home Margolis and put the Scots up 1-0. In the fourth,
Michael Helton (Laguna Beach, Calif./Sage Hill) hit an RBI single to plate sophomore
Matt Mukai (Foster City, Calif./Aragon). The Scots' final run came in the top of the six. Junior
Erik Hager (Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville South) scored off Lincoln's double to left field. Junior
Peter Aspholm (Winthrop, Wash./Liberty Bell) won the game, pitching five innings, allowing only one hit and zero runs off of 19 batters. First year
Ben Levinson (Piedmont, Calif./Piedmont) got the save, pitching the final two innings, also limiting the Cardinals to only one hit. The Scots won game two 3-0.
The Scots' next game is scheduled for Monday April 18. Macalester plays St. Olaf on the road, with game one slated for 2:30 p.m. and game two for 5:00 p.m.
