St. Paul, Minn. – The Macalester College men's tennis team opened the 2022 season with a pair of wins against Martin Luther and UW-Superior. The Scots start out the season 2-0.
The Scots swept the Knights of Martin Luther 9-0. First year
Martin Stoner (South Bend, Ind./Adams) and senior
Alexander Hamann (Lincoln, Neb./Lincoln) were slotted no. 1 doubles and eased to an 8-2 victory over their opponents. No. 2 duo first years
Owen Lindstrom (Hanover, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville) and
Maxwell Davis (Warwick, PA./Stone Independent School) won 8-4, while no. 3 slotted
Lucas Wood (Urbana, Ill./University Lab School) and sophomore
Lewis Jolly (Grinnell, Iowa/Grinnell) blanked their opponents 8-0. All six players won their singles matches within two sets as well.
The Scots also put on an impressive performance against UW-Superior, defeating the Yellowjackets 6-3. No. 2 slotted duo first years
Alec Sargent (Rochester, Minn./Rochester Century) and
Jordan Doi (Mililani, Hawaii/Mililani), and No. 3 slotted pair senior
Alexander Poland (Madison, Wis./Madison West) and first year
Liam Lynch (St. Paul, Minn./St. Paul Academy) won their doubles matches 8-4 and 8-3 respectively.
No. 2 singles senior
Karsten Knutsen (Minneapolis, Minn./Riverfield Country Day (Okla.)) and No. 5 slotted junior
Matthew Sullivan (Tacoma, Wash./Weil) easily won their matches 6-1 and 6-0. Poland and junior
Anton Korolev (Moscow, Russia/Weil) also won their singles matches this afternoon.
The Scots' next dual sees them face off against Concordia on Saturday, February 12. The Scots will travel to Moorhead for a 2:30 p.m. start time.
