Rochester, Minn. – The Macalester College women's tennis team faced a strong Luther College team today. The Scots fell 8-1 against the Norse. The Scots are now 2-1 (1-0 MIAC).
Sophomore
Amanye Reynolds (St. Paul, Minn./Harding) won the lone match for the Scots at No. 2 singles. Reynolds won the first set 6-3, while her opponent, Renata Martinez, took the second set 6-3. In the final set, Reynolds took the victory in an 11-9 tie-breaker. Two other matches went to tiebreakers. Junior
Amalin Sorajja (Rochester, Minn./Mayo) forced a third set after winning the second set at No. 1 singles 6-2. Sorajja ultimately fell 1-0 (11-9) in the third. Sophomore
Meg Ulrich (Carlisle, PA./Carlisle) also put up a solid three set performance at No. 3 singles, despite falling 1-0 (10-8) in the last set.
The Norse took all three doubles matches. Reynolds and Ulrich were the closest to upending the Norse, making it a hard-fought 8-5 battle at No. 1 doubles. However, the Norse won fourth, fifth, and sixth singles to clinch the dual 8-1.
The Scots' next competition will be in Minneapolis against St. Catherine. The Scots start at 6:00 p.m. on March 4.
