Women’s Soccer: Scots Topped by Cardinals on the Road

WINONA, Minn. – Macalester College women's soccer team was on the road again this afternoon for a MIAC matchup against Saint Mary's. The Scots created multiple offensive chances, but were denied by the Cardinals and fell 2-0. Macalester moves to 7-5-5 (3-4-3 MIAC).

Junior Ella Thomsen (Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto) set the tone for the match with a shot just after kickoff. The Scots continued their offensive attack with Thomsen, senior Sarah Hamilton (Chanhassen, Minn./Minnetonka), and junior Mia Brisbin (Los Angeles, Calif./Crossroads School) forcing three saves within a minute of each other. Defensive efforts from junior Livi Novello (East Lansing, Mich./East Lansing), senior Lily Lorenzen (San Francisco, Calif./Urban School of San Francisco), sophomore Eva Eiss (Rockton, Ill./Hononegah), first year Hazel Waters (Berkeley, Calif./Berkeley), senior Kate Ellerd (St. Paul, Minn./Nova Classical Academy), and first year Becky Mulcahy (Baltimore, Md./Roland Park Country School) kept the Cardinals from getting off a good shot, and the teams went into halftime, 0-0.

Brisbin and Hamilton both had chances saved by the Saint Mary's goalie but it was the Cardinals who broke through with a goal in the 68th minute. The Cardinals would score again in the 86th minute to double their lead. The Scots fought till the end with two more chances saved, but they weren't able to overcome the deficit, and fell 2-0.

The Scots' next game will be Saturday Oct 29 at 1:00 p.m. Macalester will host Gustavus Adolphus at Macalester Stadium.
