ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College volleyball team held off a persistent squad from Saint Mary's to win in four sets, 25-19, 20-25, 25-21, 25-23 in a MIAC match Wednesday night in the Leonard Center. The victory gives the Scots a 14-9 record overall, including a 4-4 mark in conference play. The Cardinals fall to 9-14, 2-6 MIAC.
With four matches left in the regular season, Macalester has clinched a winning record for the second straight season. The last time the Scots posted back-to-back winning records was in 1999-2000.
In the first set, Macalester took advantage of 10 attack errors by Saint Mary's in a 25-19 win. Sophomore outside hitter
Adisa Preston (Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie) and sophomore middle blocker
Stephanie Geber (Oviedo, Fla./Oviedo) each had three kills in the set. The Cardinals responded in the second set, turning a 14-14 tie into a 25-20 win despite four kills from senior outside hitter
Eliza King (Novato, Calif./San Marin). Preston put away five kills and had two blocks in the third set to give the Scots a 2-1 edge with a 25-21 win.
The fourth set went back and forth, with neither team leading by more than three points. With the score tied at 20-20, two kills by Preston helped Macalester take a 23-20 lead. Kills by Braidyn Ruetten and Ciarra McNally brought Saint Mary's to within two before another kill from Preston set up match point, 24-22. After a Scots' service error, King finished the match with a kill for a 25-23 victory.
Preston had five kills in the fourth set and led Macalester with 14 kills for the match. King finished with 11 kills and a team-best 26 digs. First year middle blocker

Torrance Williams (Houston, Texas/Yes Prep Northbrook) recorded 21 digs. Abbie Stigler led the Cardinals with 16 kills.
The Scots play at tri-match at Hamline on Saturday, Oct. 22, taking on the Pipers in a MIAC match at 3:00 p.m. before facing No. 12 UW-Eau Claire, the defending NCAA Division III champions, at 5:00 p.m. in St. Paul.
