ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College men's soccer team played its second game of the 2021 fall campaign against #5 ranked Luther College, on Saturday September 4. They took on the Norse at Macalester Stadium but were defeated 3-1. The Scots's record is now 1-1-0.
The match was held to a stalemate in the first half. Macalester got off four shots in the first half. First year
Hans Haenicke (Lisle, Ill./Benet Academy) and played strong for the offense, registering a shot as well as creating many attacking opportunities for the Scots.
However, the second half seemed to belong to the Norse, who recorded nine shots in the half. Luther's strong offense finally broke through the Scots's defensive line, led by senior
Will Orser (Eau Claire, Wis./Eau Claire Memorial), in the 52
nd minute. The Norse would go on to score twice more in the half.
Towards the end of the half, the Scots started to rally, with junior
Joey Stern (Chicago, Ill./Francis W. Parker) scoring in the 89
th minute. However, they could not overcome the deficit and the game ended 3-1 in favor of the Norse. Macalester's next game is Sept. 6 at 5:30 p.m. against Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa.
