Minneapolis, Minn.– The Macalester College women's soccer team traveled to Minneapolis to play a conference matchup against Augsburg University. Despite a tough battle, the Auggies topped the Scots 1-0. Macalester's record is now 4-1-1 (1-1-0 MIAC).
It was a hard-fought battle from the start. In the ninth minute, the Auggies went one up, with a goal from Jennifer Bobaric. Strong defensive play from sophomore
Livi Novello (East Lansing, Mich./East Lansing) and senior
Hannah Conner (Madison, Wis./Madison West) kept the Auggies to only one goal.
Macalester pushed to even the score in the second half. Senior
Carolyn Eckstein (Bryn Mawr, PA/Radnor) and junior
Sarah Hamilton (Chanhassen, Minn./Minnetonka) led the press forward. Macalester's senior goalkeeper
Dana Gustafson (Ames, IA/Ames) made eight outstanding saves on the night, keeping the game close.
Despite their efforts, the Scots could not overcome the deficit. Macalester's next game will be Saturday, Sept. 25 at 3:30 p.m. The Scots will travel to Northfield, MN to play St. Olaf.
