ST. PAUL, Minn. –The Macalester College women's soccer team opened its 2021 fall campaign by tying Carleton, 2-2, in a non-conference game Saturday evening at Bell Field. The Scots start the fall with a 0-0-1 record.
Carleton struck first with a goal by Cate Patterson in the ninth minute. Then in the 19th minute, the Scots pulled even on a goal by junior
Sarah Hamilton (Chanhassan, Minn./Minnetonka), who scored on a long range shot to the upper left corner.
The game remained tied going into the second half until the 56th minute, when junior
Lucy Grochulska (Henrico, VA./Henrico) scored for a 2-1 lead. The Knights answered back in the 71
st minute with Patterson scoring a second goal.
Senior
Dana Gustafson (Ames, Iowa/Ames), made her first collegiate start against the Knights. She made 12 saves in order to keep the Scots level and earn a tie. The stalemate marked the first official competition for the team since 2019. The team has a full season ahead of them. Their next game is Sept. 4 against Northland College in Ashland, Wis.
