St. Paul, Minn.- The Macalester College women's tennis team opened up the 2021 season with an impressive 8-1 win over St. Catherine University to open up MIAC play. The Scots are now 1-0 (1-0 MIAC) while St. Kate's falls to 5-2 (3-2 MIAC).
Macalester swept doubles play starting with the first-year duo of
Arista Siebrits (Frisco Texas/Laurel Springs) and
Sydney Ellison (Birmingham, Ala./Spain Park) winning 8-5. Sisters pair, sophomore
Amalin Sorajja (Rochester, Minn./Mayo) and senior
Natali Sorajja (Rochester, Minn./Mayo) won their match 8-3 in the no. 2 slot. Seniors
Laurel Hickey (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) and
Emma Baker (Bentonville, Ark./Bentonville) rounded out doubles play with an 8-2 win in the no. 3 slot.
Siebrits, Ellison, Hickey, A. Sorajja, and first-year
Amanye Reynolds (St. Paul, Minn./Harding) all won their singles matched in two sets.
The Scots will hit the road to take on Saint Mary's Sunday, April 11. Action is set to start at 3:30 pm.
