ST. PAUL, Minn. – Macalester College Director of Athletics Donnie Brooks has announced that head volleyball coach Sarah Graves '04 has resigned her position to pursue opportunities outside of coaching. Graves has been the Scots' head coach since 2017.

In addition to her duties as head volleyball coach, Graves has served on several committees within the athletic department, including the department's leadership team. She also has been a part of the Alumni Board Athletics Working Group at Macalester, which fosters the relationship between student-athlete alumni and the athletic department. Graves spent six years as an assistant volleyball coach at Macalester before becoming the head coach at Denison University in 2015.

"Sarah has been a model for women in leadership during her time at Macalester as a student-athlete, coach and administrator," Brooks said. "Although she will no longer be on our staff, Sarah will always be an important member of the Macalester Athletics community. We are sad to see her go, but we are excited to see what she will accomplish in the future."

A 2004 Macalester graduate, Graves was a four-year starter for the Scots and ranks among the program's leaders in several categories, including block assists, service aces and assists.

"Coaching at Macalester has been an honor," Graves said. "I'm proud of what our staff and players have built over the past four years. Macalester is a special community and as an alum I'm really thankful to have had the opportunity to lead this program.

"During my time at Mac I've worked with some amazing young people and I'm excited to watch them continue to develop and achieve. This program is in an amazing place and ready to make an impact in the conference. I know Mac VB will continue to succeed for years to come and I'm excited to watch that unfold!"

A national search for Graves' replacement will begin later this month.
