Men’s Soccer: The Scots Win a Thriller against Augsburg to Continue on to the Semifinals

Minneapolis, Minn. – The Macalester College men's soccer started their run in the MIAC playoffs tonight. The Scots traveled to play Augsburg University. Earlier in the season, the Scots lost a close battle to the Auggies, 1-0. However, tonight, the Scots came out on top with a 3-2 victory.

The game started off back-and-forth. Both teams looked to take their chances. Towards the middle of the half, the Scots began to pick up momentum. The Scots were rewarded with a goal from senior Omar Anwar (St. Paul, Minn./Roseville Area) in the 25th minute. The Scots kept up the pressure, and took a 1-0 lead into the break.

The second half was a battle until the end. The Auggies answered back in the 49th minute, tying the game at one. Then, the Auggies took the lead in the 63rd minute. However, the Scots never gave up. Macalester continued to press forward and in the 73rd minute, junior Silas Southworth (Lancaster, N.H./White Mountains Regional) brought the Scots back level with Augsburg. Then, five minutes later, senior Jack Muller (Carmel, Ind./Carmel) had his shot bounce off the post and fall into the path of fellow senior Danny Peak (Marion, Iowa/Linn-Mar), who blasted the ball into the back of the Augsburg net and lifted the Scots over the Auggies.

Senior goalkeeper Cade Fink (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield North) made six saves on the night, helping the Scots to the 3-2 victory. The Scots move on to the semifinals, where they will face Carleton on the road. The game is scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 3.
