St. Paul, Minn. – Macalester College women's soccer team hosted a conference match against St. Catherine University. It was a back-and-forth battle that ended with each side stepping off the field with a goal.
The game began and both teams looked to possess the ball. The Wildcats looked to strike early, but the Scots' defense kept the score level. Junior
Lily Lorenzen (San Francisco, CA/Urban School of San Francisco) and senior
Hannah Conner (Madison, Wis./Madison West) led the defense for the Scots. Lorenzen got in on the attack as well with a shot. Just before the end of the half, senior
Zoe Kross (Queen Creek, AZ/Basha) had a shot saved by the Wildcats' keeper.
Both teams were eager for a goal in the second half. Sophomore
Ella Thomsen (Palo Alto, CA/Palo Alto) had a shot saved by St. Catherine's keeper in the 55
th minute. However, it was the Wildcats who struck first in the 83
rd minute and had the ball go in off a Scot. The Scots were not going down without a fight, however. Just five minutes later, it was senior
Alice Bieda (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove North) who leveled the score again, and forced the game into overtime.
After two ten-minute overtime periods, the game ended 1-1. Senior goalkeeper
