St. Paul, Minn. – Macalester College women's soccer team competed in their last home game of the regular season tonight. The Scots played the Cardinals of St. Mary's University. Despite their efforts, the Scots lost 1-0.
The Scots kicked off the first half and immediately were pressured by the Cardinals. In the 14
th minute, the Cardinals' Haddy Falkman put one past the Scots. From that point on, the Scots continued to put the pressure on the Cardinals. Junior
Sarah Hamilton (Chanhassen, Minn./Minnetonka) took a shot for the Scots, but was blocked.
In the second half, the Scots continued to press, with seven shots on the half. Senior
Alice Bieda (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove North) had her shot saved 38 seconds into the half. First year
Mikaely Evans (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard South) forced a save from Cardinals' keeper Alexis Nguyen in the 77
th minute. Sophomore
Livi Novello (East Lansing, Mich./East Lansing) had a chance at the end of the game, but the ball went just wide of the net.
Senior goalkeeper,
Dana Gustafson (Ames, Iowa/Ames) made six saves on the night to keep the game close, but the Scots ultimately fell 1-0. Macalester's record is now 10-5-2 (4-5-1 MIAC) The Scots will play their last regular season game on Saturday, Oct. 30, at 3:30 p.m. They will travel to play Gustavus Adolphus in St. Peter, Minn.
