ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College men's soccer team played Saint Mary's University to a 1-1 draw in double overtime in a MIAC game Tuesday night at Macalester Stadium. The Scots are now 8-7-1 overall and 5-3-1 in conference play heading into the final regular season game, while the Cardinals are 3-11-2, 0-8-2 MIAC. The result came in Macalester's final home game of the regular season.

The Scots came out strong, looking to earn three points. Less than three minutes into the game, sophomore defender Zade Alafranji (Sacramento, Calif./Sacramento Waldorf School) sent a long pass down the right side for first year forward Hans Haenicke (Lisle, Ill./Benet Academy). Haenicke took a shot from a sharp angle and beat Daniel Sessler for an early 1-0 lead. The advantage didn't last long, as the Cardinals responded in the 14th minute with a goal by Jacob Clements.

Macalester had the bulk of the possession but couldn't put another one past Sessler despite a 20-7 advantage in shots. Sessler made 12 saves, including eight after halftime. Senior goalkeeper Cade Fink (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield) tallied three saves for the Scots.

Macalester wraps up the regular season with a conference game at Gustavus on Saturday, Oct. 30. Game time is set for 12:30 p.m. in St. Peter, Minn.
