Northfield, Minn. – The Macalester College men's soccer team continued its fall season with a road contest against fellow MIAC member Carleton College. Macalester battled the whole game, but ended up on the wrong side of a 1-0 score line. The Scots' record is now 7-7 (4-3 MIAC).
The Scots started their attack quickly, with a shot from junior
Milosz Fernandez-Kepka (Las Vegas, Nev./Indiana University HS) in the second minute. First year forward
Hans Haenicke (Lisle, Ill./Benet Academy) also let off a few shots early against the Knights. The Scots also played strong defensively, going into the break, 0-0.
When the second half began, the Scots continued to keep the Knights at bay. However, in the 70
th minute, the Knights were able to put one in the back of the Scots' net. However, the Scots were not deterred by this, and continued to press offensively. Junior
Silas Southworth (Lancaster, NH, White Mountains Regional) led the offense from that point on.
The game remained close, but Macalester's efforts weren't enough to overcome the Knights' 1-0 lead. The Scots' next game is Saturday, Oct. 23, where they will host Saint John's University at 12:30 p.m.
