ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College men's soccer team played its thirteenth game of the 2021 fall season, hosting the College of Saint Scholastica. The Scots turned up the pressure early against the Saints, and took the win, 4-0. The Scots' record is now 7-6 (4-2 MIAC).
Macalester started off the game with multiple shots in the first five minutes. Their pressure became too much for the Saints, as first year
Hans Haenicke (Lisle, Ill./Benet Academy) put the Scots ahead, with his seventh goal of the season, in the eighth minute off an assist from senior
Will Orser (Eau Claire, Wis./Eau Claire Memorial). Then in the 15
th minute, the Scots were awarded a free kick. Senior
Omar Anwar (St. Paul, Minn./Roseville Area) stepped up and doubled the Scots lead, scoring his first of the campaign. Macalester's constant pressure allowed them to go into the break 2-0 up.
In the second half, the Scots kept up the pressure, both offensively and defensively. Senior goalkeeper
Cade Fink (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield North) made four saves to keep a shutout for the Scots. On the other side of the field, Macalester continued to take shots and finally in the 82
nd minute, senior
Ben Wagner (Orchard Park, N.Y./Orchard Park) put one in for the Scots off a pass from junior
Silas Southworth (Lancaster, NH, White Mountains Regional). This is Wagner's third goal of the season. To cap off the night, Southworth would score his sixth goal of the season, assisted by first year,
Nathan Corbett (Mequon, Wis./Homestead).
While the game became very intense at the end, the Scots maintained their composure and won 4-0. Macalester's next game is Saturday, Oct. 16, where they will play a conference game against Carleton on the road. Kickoff is set for 12:30 p.m.
