ST. PAUL, Minn. – Macalester College seniors Oriana Galasso (Gresham, Ore./Central Catholic) and Mike Babb (St. Louis, Mo./St. John Vianney) have been named the Shield of Strength winners for the 2019-20 year, Head of Sports Performance Scott Hintz announced today.

The Shield of Strength Award is given to two senior student-athletes from a men's and a women's sport who have shown commitment, leadership, resiliency and a strong work ethic in the weight room throughout their four years at Macalester.  The award winners have demonstrated the ability to be successful while helping their teammates around them reach their full athletic potential.

Galasso is a three-time All-American in water polo who helped to lead the Scots to three consecutive conference championships. Babb is a five-year member of the men's basketball team who overcame a season-ending injury as a sophomore to become a contributor and team captain for the Scots.

The names of the two award winners will be added to the Shield of Strength plaque in the Deno Fitness Center.
