Lakeville, Minn.- The Macalester College women's tennis team opened up the 2020 season with an 8-1 win over St. Scholastica. The Scots post an early 1-0 (0-0 MIAC) mark after today's win while St. Scholastica falls to 0-2 (0-0 UMAC).
The Scots swept doubles play starting with junior
Natali Sorajja (Rochester, Minn./Mayo) and first year
Amalin Sorajja (Rochester, Minn./Mayo) beating Elizabeth Fink and Madilyn Jankila 8-1. Junior
Laurel Hickey (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) and junior
Emma Baker (Bentonville, Ark./Bentonville) kept it rolling with a close 8-6 victory over Syd Holt and Madeline Samz. Senior
Claire Buehler (Houston, Texas/Awty International School) and first year
Avery Munster (San Luis Obispo, Calif./Mission) played well and took down Hannah Loewen and Alyssa Xiong by a score of 8-5.
N. Sorajja, A. Sorajja, Buehler, Baker, and Munster all flexed their muscles by winning their singles matches in two sets. Those five Scots also held their opponents to under three points each set.
Macalester will be back in action next Saturday, February 15, to take on Crown College for the first home match of the season. The first matches are set to start at 1:00 p.m.
