MINNEAPOLIS, Minn.- The Macalester College women's tennis team took down St. Thomas University by a score of 5-4 in MIAC play. The Scots beat the Tommies for the first time since 2003. Macalester improves to 3-1 (1-1 MIAC) while St. Thomas falls to 6-2 (3-2 MIAC).
In doubles play, junior
Natali Sorajja (Rochester, Minn./Mayo) and first year
Amalin Sorajja (Rochester, Minn./Mayo) started off with an 8-7 win in the No. 1 slot. The sisters now have their second doubles win of the season. Junior
Laurel Hickey (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) and junior
Emma Baker (Bentonville, Ark./Bentonville) teamed up to earn a dominant 8-1 victory over the Tommies No. 2 slotted doubles pair. Senior
Claire Buehler (Houston, Texas/Awty International School) and first year
Avery Munster (San Luis Obispo, Calif./Mission) also rolled to an 8-1 victory in the No. 3 slot to close out doubles play.
In singles play, A. Sorajja grabbed another win in the No. 3 position to stay undefeated in her freshman campaign. A. Sorajja won 6-0 and 6-1. Buehler also won her match in two sets to help secure a Macalester win. She took both sets 6-2.
The Scots will resume action March 6 with a non conference matchup against University of Wisconsin Eau Claire. The match is set for a 7 pm. start time.
