Minneapolis, Minn.- The Macalester College baseball team opened up the 2020 season by taking on College of St. Scholastica in U.S. Bank Stadium. The Scots dropped game one to CSS 5-2 and then responded by taking game two by a score of 4-2. Both teams are now 1-1 on the season after splitting the season opening double header.
To start game one, CSS took a 2-0 lead over the Scots. In the third inning, Macalester put up a run to cut the deficit in half after sophomore
Lian Lincoln (Anchorage, Alaska/South Anchorage) scored sophomore
Anthony Palma (Moorseville, N.C./Lake Norman) on a single through the right side. St. Scholastica responded by capitalizing on two Macalester errors and scoring a run the very next inning.
The Scots strung toghter a few hits throughout the rest of the game but struggled to plate any runners and score. In the top of the seventh, junior
Jack Sahargun (Coto De Caza, Calif./Tesoro) tripled and tallied his first RBI of the season but it was not enough as the Scots could not rally any more runs after that. Macalester fell 5-2 in the first game of the season.
Despite out-hitting CSS 8-6 in game one, Macalester left a total of seven runners on base.
