ARDEN HILLS, Minn. – The Macalester College men's basketball team fell to Bethel University, 82-63 despite 31 points from junior forward
Jackson Henningfield (Lake Mary, Fla./Lyman) in a MIAC game Saturday afternoon at the Robinson Center. The Scots are now 6-14 overall and 3-12 in conference play, while the Royals improve to 13-6, 10-4 MIAC.
Bethel controlled play for most of the first half, leading by as many as 15 points. With the score 32-17 with five minutes left in the half, Macalester closed out the period with a 12-6 run that included eight points from Henningfield and four points from sophomore center
Shane Anderson (Fargo, N.D./Davies) to make the halftime score 38-29 Bethel. The Scots shot 41.7 percent from the floor compared to 55.2 percent for the Royals in the first half.
In the second half, Bethel started the half with a 9-2 run over the first 2:35 to lead 47-31. The Royals pushed the lead to 24, 58-34 with 13 minutes left. Macalester was able to come within 14 points three times, thanks in part to a pair of threes by Henningfield and another from sophomore guard
Lucas Leiter (Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Eagan) that helped to make the score 71-57 with 4:06 remaining. But that's as close as the Scots would get, as Bethel wrapped up its second win over Macalester this season.
Henningfield had a stellar game offensively, scoring 31 points on 10-of-16 shooting from the field, including 3-of-6 from three-point range. He also was 8-of-11 from the free throw line and grabbed seven rebounds. Anderson finished with 12 points, while sophomore guard
Eric Sathy (Cupertino, Calif./Homestead) added eight points. Hudson Urbanus led Bethel with 21 points.
Macalester returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 8 with a home contest against Carleton. The Scots will honor their seniors before the game, which starts at 1:00 p.m. in the Leonard Center.
