ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College volleyball team began the Macalester Invitational with a pair of losses on Friday in the Leonard Center. The Scots fell to UW-River Falls and Central College on the tournament's first day.

Against UW-River Falls, Macalester started slow with a 25-12 defeat in the first set before battling the Falcons in the second set, eventually losing, 25-21. UW-River Falls closed out their second victory over the Scots this season by taking the third set, 25-16. First year Eliza King (Novato, Calif./San Marin) led Macalester with 10 kills to go with seven digs. Sophomore Claire Loomans (Minneapolis, Minn./Southwest) dished out 22 assists, while first year Katrina Schoen (Grafton, Wis./Cedarburg) led the defense with 14 digs.

In the second game of the day, Macalester again pushed their opponent in the second set but ultimately fell to Central, 25-15, 25-22, 25-14. King notched eight kills and five digs, while fellow first year Zoe Lowe (Longmont, Colo./Longmont) had six kills and five digs. Loomans finished with 21 assists, and Schoen notched 17 digs.

Macalester concludes the Invitational on Saturday with matches against Knox at 10:00 a.m. and Bethany Lutheran at 12:00 p.m. in the Leonard Center.
